“Girl, that bubble got me seein’ triple-double,” sings Carl Henry, talking up a female companion’s posterior and summing up two-thirds of his debut. He likes ladies, especially when they’re in the club, so it’s apt that most of the Montreal-raised R&B guy’s West Indian-inflected debut is set there. He’s dancing even while mulling over complicated issues like restraining himself from advancing on his homie’s girl. I don’t mind brainless club fare, but Henry’s Kevin Lyttle-ish voice is nothing special, and so many better-produced albums like it have come out this year (Rihanna’s, Melanie Durrant’s, Jully Black’s and Sean Paul’s come to mind) that it’s doubtful Henry’s will make a mark.
