CAROLYN MARK at The Dakota, Friday, June 17. NXNE. Rating: NNN
“I hope you guys like the blues,” repeated Victoria’s Carolyn Mark, as she set up at the Dakota.
Always affable, Mark joked that Joey Wright, Jenny Whitely and herself were just the techies, and the real band would show up soon.
The new material was bluesy, as she sang of unrequited love, childhood and her perennial theme of not knowing what she’s going to do next. It wasn’t Mark’s smoothest set, but the audience was into it, and it showcased her knack for clever sing along choruses.
