Cheerleader EP (October 32) Rating: NNN Rating: NNN
Local spectacle-cum-rawk-outfit Cheerleader's self-titled EP doesn't quite capture the pyrotechnic mayhem of their live shows. The disc offers five solid tracks of high-energy glam metal, with chuffa-chuffa grinding guitars and thudding drums. The problem is that singer-bassist Ethan Cawke's vocals are tinny and buried deep down in the mix. Maybe you could argue that they were trying to replicate the experience of listening to the band through bar chatter and bad acoustics in a dingy rock club, but it just sounds like they recorded this on the cheap in a shitty studio with bad mikes. Cheerleader launch their new EP at the Bovine Sex Club Saturday (August 10).
