London-based producers Chicken Lips have been getting a lot of attention from DJs over the past year for their forward thinking take on dubby electro disco. Sounding classic and futuristic at the same time, they’ve convinced house DJs to play electro, electro fans to listen to house and disco lovers to catch up to the present. This mix CD chronicles their influences, and as might be expected, draws heavily from the New York post-disco era, while a third of the tracks are from the present day. It’s nice that none of it sounds particularly old or new – you might even call it timeless. Garage heads may want to check it out along with electro fans, since many of the classics included were closely associated with the Paradise Garage and legendary DJ Larry Levan.
