Y'know, the anger management industry would fall on hard times if more people invested in punching bags and a few Children of Bodom albums. On their fifth release, Finland's champions of speed metal switch things up by incorporating elements of Lamb of God-style American metal into their already heady combo of speed, musical virtuosity and ridiculously fun keyboard solos that sound like Mozart on crack. The real hook is the band's ability to offset pounding aggression with downright catchy melodies. Well, that and singer Alexi Laiho's venomous growl, which simply demands attention.
Children of Bodom play Friday (November 11) at the Opera House.
