Clutch

I suppose if, say, Aerosmith, Kyuss and Soundgarden all got together, did a bong-load or two and had a baby, Clutch would probably be that bastard child. By blending sludgy, fuzzed-out riffs with some old-fashioned organ and foot-stomping rhythms, these guys should be awesome. But instead, you get song after song of the same tired old riff-heavy hard rock that ends up sounding annoying and redundant. Remember that song by Monster Magnet called Space Lord? Well, Robot Hive is kind of like an entire album’s worth of that. Clutch would be pretty rad if taken in small, regulated doses, but this is just too much.

Clutch play as part of the Sounds Of The Underground tour at Arrow Hall Wednesday (July 4).
