COLIN LINDEN

Rating: NNN

“You’re askin’ me too many questions about how I feel,” sings highly accomplished, Grammy-nominated, Juno-winning singer/guitarist/songwriter Colin Linden on Southern Jumbo. “Let me alone before I lose my nerve.” Occasionally, Linden taps into themes and sounds that are far more new country than blues. He’s much better when he gets raw, like on the basic but stirring Dog Catcher, the plaintive soul of That Was Me and the folky Go Back Old Devil. Artists Keb’ Mo’, Lucinda Williams, Bruce Cockburn and Lee Roy Parnell, among others, drop by and enrich a record you’ll want to play while you get drunk on the porch with your old man or old lady.
