Cornelius

CorNELIUS
Point (Matador) Rating: NN Rating: NN

After briefly drawing press attention for his zany sampledelic impression of Disneyland, Fantasma, sonic prankster Keigo Oyamada, aka Cornelius, has realized there’s no future in being “the Japanese Beck” and returned to his easy-listening roots aping Haircut 100. Point (out Tuesday) has some gurgling electronic touches for that futuristic feel, and even a momentary shift into a metal thrash to keep critics guessing, but it’s mostly melodic, albeit forgettable, synth pop. Definitely not the anticipated quantum leap forward.
