CSNY

Rating: NNN

A funny thing happened to David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young on the way to CSNY’s Freedom Tour of 2006. While they were trying to think of some appropriate government questioning broadsides and anti-war anthems to perform, they realized they’d already written a bunch themselves.

So they knocked them out for adoring arena audiences obviously thrilled to be seeing their hippie heroes together again singing the oldies like Teach Your Children, For What It’s Worth, Military Madness and Déjà Vu. But it’s Young’s recent songs from Living With War – namely Looking For A Leader, Shock And Awe, After The Garden and Let’s Impeach The President, complete with sampled Dubyaisms – that really stand out. Getting them back in circulation in the run-?up to the presidential election is likely the whole point of this patchy live release.
