Rating: NNNN

Frustratingly unstable Boston space rock band Cul de Sac finally check in with their first album in nearly three years. Immortality Lessons is a live recording of a 1999 radio broadcast, which sounds like a stalling technique to avoid going into the studio, but it’s much better than it deserves to be. Drawing inspiration from avant garde jazz, 60s psychedelic, Middle Eastern, surf, krautrock and folk music, Cul de Sac don’t really sound like anything else. This performance captures them alone in a room with a couple of mikes — it’s raw but beautiful and strange as well.
