D12

Rating: NNN

Although D12 haven’t set the world ablaze, they do have a definite niche, since their six-man ultra-violent, rowdy sound clearly appeals to the large demographic that prefers The Marshall Mathers LP to Em’s recent self-empowerment anthems. He’s fine on this record but makes a point of not stealing the show. Lyrical reverse-juggernaut Bizarre shines disgustingly brightly on the Hi-Tek-produced over-the-top gross solo cut Just Like U. Eminem and Kon Artis handle most of the production, with Kanye West and Dr. Dre also providing a tune apiece. It should be noted that Eminem’s production is improving but remains repetitive. All the group’s MCs have skills, but as a group they need to perfect their sound. Not bad, but not super.
