DANDI WIND

Rating: NNNN

Dandi Wind’s chief programmer, Szam Findlay, draws inspiration from the paddy synths of 80s new wave, but also from the jittery, creepy aggression of West Coast techno freaks Skinny Puppy. With singer Dandelion Wind Opaine’s cryptic, ethereal lyrics, this adds up to an overarching sense of something dark and sinister – and it totally works in an “every day is Halloween” kind of way.

While their pristine production initially suggests a focus on track-building instead of songwriting, Dandi Wind wisely favour the latter, artfully constructing verse-chorus transitions on the breathless anthem Adolescent, the breakneck-speed Baying Of The Hounds and the brooding A Lifetime.
