Danko Jones

Rating: NNN

Anyone who’s seen a Danko Jones gig will already know that the group’s namesake frontman has a gift for gab, so the appearance of this spoken word recording should come as no great shock. However, fewer people will know that beneath that well-cultivated rock god stage persona, Danko Jones is really just a starstruck autograph-seeking, colour-vinyl-amassing, KISS-doll-collecting fanboy at heart. On The Magical World Of Rock – a collection of live recordings made at various intimate venues across Scandinavia last summer – Danko lets loose his inner 14-year-old and reveals how his life was saved by rock ‘n’ roll, through fond recollections of his brushes with Solomon Burke, Ronnie James Dio and Ozzy Osbourne. Not quite laugh-out-loud funny, but Danko is a captivating speaker, and his stories are delivered with a charming dose of self-deprecating wit.
