Dead Drouillard opens his new EP with the Dick Dale-style wave-riding riffs of Chocolate Toupee. At mid-song he switches into house band at a bohemian Tiki lounge. The rest of the album continues to move through scenes that are the aural equivalent of watching montages of old movie clips.
From the high-lonesome cowboy riding under the stars on Never or the psyched-out biker party on The Dragon, the Cameron House regular has that Sadies-like chameleon quality to recreate whatever soundtrack he envisions.
Drouillard is slightly hampered by homemade-sounding production values, but even so, this disc is still impressive. Drouillard launches Dragon! at the Cameron Sunday (July 8).
