Dire Straits

Considering Brothers In Arms was such a monster hit in the 80s, it’s no surprise that this best-of features three songs from that album, which any casual fan will know by heart especially the Sting cameo with his “I want my MTV” line from Money For Nothing. What’s surprising is that this set features only Sultans Of Swing from their first album, which many consider Dire Straits’ best, and songs like Six Blade Knife and Southbound Again (to name but two) easily outdo most of the tracks here. The Knopfler-Emmylou Harris duet is nice enough, but picking Boom, Like That over the infectious Twisting By The Pool borders on criminal. Much better is their 1988 best-of, Money For Nothing.
