The Geometrid (Sub Pop) Rating: NNNN
While his Belle & Sebastian mates veer toward orchestral Lee Hazelwood territory on their forthcoming disc, former B&S bassist Stuart David sticks with the sampler for the second set by his homespun Looper project.
Thankfully free of the cute factor that dominated the group's debut, David shows a knack for sparse pop songs and crunching hiphop beats. While the rest of the Looper crew strum their guitars and coo on about Robots and a futuristic pill that will replace proper meals, David hooks up a series of fuzzy drum loops that lurch along with frightening irregularity. An instrumental recording would be appreciated.
