Los Angeles producers/MCs People Under the Stairs could easily find themselves at the forefront of the massive West Coast hiphop underground movement, but they're probably too busy looking for breaks in their record cellars for that.
Thes One and Double K work as both DJs and rappers, and it shows. In the era of ultra-produced compilation LPs, rarely has a hiphop record sounded like such a complete product. From the Scarborough Fair loop on down, People Under the Stairs' soulful, left-field beats somehow fit perfectly with their staggered rhymes. The fact that they're mostly rhyming about DJs and records probably has something to do with it, but it works.
