For a while, it seemed like everyone in the Toronto hiphop underground was talking about Mr. Roam From The Plant, and the accomplice of production powerhouse Da Grassroots doesn't disappoint on his debut single.
The two tracks here are remarkably sparse but still impressive. Groupie Central features a typically jazzy Grassroots beat, broken up by Roam's stuttering, understated rhyme. Sunny Kiss Is Wack is a more direct but no less flashy affair, with a harder beat and a tougher flow. Both beg for a full-length treatment. Expect a preview when Mr. Roam joins the 416 Graffiti Expo party at the Reverb Saturday (August 26).
