To commemorate Oscar Peterson's 75th birthday, Verve has issued a puzzling grab bag of 21 tracks the jazz great recorded for the label during his classic trio period of the late 50s to early 60s.
The uninformative liner notes offer no explanation for the odd selections and goofy sequencing, nor do they attempt to put Peterson's productive career into proper perspective. It's sadly typical of the way this icon has always been treated at home. He deserves much better. TP
