While Madonna's message with Music is anyone's guess -- Technology is art? Art is technology? Playing with computers is, like, rilly fun? -- the outcome is a total step away from Ray Of Light's brilliant convergence of cold studio manipulation and the human heart.
Wading through the album is a litmus test of tolerance -- how many different ways can Madonna's voice be shredded, vocoded, cut and pasted and still be recognizable? Somewhere in the quest for the cutting edge, somebody forgot to write songs. No amount of recording wizardry can compensate for that.
