Evidently, bad records do happen to good people. Joan Osborne's long-overdue new disc should be much better than it is, given who worked on it (Mitchell Froom, members of Los Lobos and the Attractions). But the chief problem is Osborne, who casts herself alternately as a blues singer, a roadhouse belter and the fourth Supreme. Note to Joan -- pick one, get good. That two of the 11 songs are covers suggests the well has run dry.
