It sure is nice hearing Bernard Sumner's voice again. So while the arrival of a new Electronic record may not be cause for uncorking anything fizzy, it's definitely worth investigation for those who enjoyed the previous sonic throwdowns of the drawling singer and his taciturn sidekick, guitarist Johnny Marr.
Twisted Tenderness aspires to be a great many things - funky, clubby, flat-out rock and a highly tweaked amalgamation of the three. Mostly it works, since Sumner and Marr represent the cream of two very different crops - obviously, New Order and the Smiths. So while Marr lays down dense and complex rock parts, Sumner window-dresses the foreground with flashy loops and keyboard swirls. Top.
