There's nothing particularly obvious or flashy about the music made by LAL, aka vocalist Rosina and Da Grassroots producer Murr.
Just the opposite, in fact. Corners is all about understatement, a beat-based record that seems happy to lurk in the shadows. Rosina's vocals barely break above a murmur, while refined hiphop thumps and the odd breakbeat throb away behind her. It's a sublime mix, occasionally perhaps a bit too understated. Still, remaining in the background is much better than clobbering you over the head. LAL release Corners at Lee's Palace tonight (Thursday, November 2).
