Sure, maybe at some point there was some edge and life to the music of Victoria singer/songwriter Nelly Furtado, but you'd never know it from listening to her torturously dull Whoa, Nelly! debut.
If the point was to introduce her with an album that sounds like every other radio-ready pop record with a hiphop shuffle, mission accomplished. There are a few interesting beats and sounds here, but they've all had the life produced out of them, and Furtado herself doesn't yet have the songs to make Whoa, Nelly! come off as more than just bland button-pushing with the occasional Portuguese lyric.
