The focus of this 18-cut collection is ostensibly under-documented producer Niney Holness, who apprenticed in the soundsystems of Bunny Lee, Clement Dodd and Joe Gibbs before launching his own roots studio. But given the vocal talent the Observer drew, it's no surprise that Microphone Attack has instead become a showcase for the best deejays around in the mid-70s. All the toasting heavyweights turn up to rhyme and shout over Niney's broken-down Dennis Brown mixes, including an in-form I-Roy, Big Youth, Dillinger, Ranking Trevor and U-Roy, here listed as Mr. U-Roy. Rival sounds are mocked, ghetto violence is documented and I-Roy struts around like a "gardener with a long hose." Classic selections.
