The Cure Join The Dots (Elektra/Rhino) Rating: NNNN

Rating: NNNN

Here’s a bold new concept: designing a multi-disc boxed set specifically for the hardcore fans who buy them. Brilliant. Rhino’s beautifully packaged four-disc Join The Dots set – compiling the Cure’s single b-sides, alternate takes, remixes and lost tracks recorded between 1978 and 2001 – shrewdly sidesteps the readily available album cuts to deliver all the hard-to-find goods that Cure fanatics want. Considering the popularity of Cure-inspired groups like the Rapture and Hot Hot Heat, the huge interest in all things 80s and the fact that there’s a new Ross Robinson-produced Cure album due imminently, it’s also a very timely release.
