JOE JACKSON Two Rainy Nights: Live In Seattle & Portland (Koch) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

There was a time when Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello were the great white hope of the biz. That was a long time ago. While Costello remains relevant, Jackson is best remembered for a handful of hits in the early 80s. This live album reunites his original band, and while the tracks are all competent, each one gives new meaning to the term “going through the motions.” Its billing as his greatest hits live seems inappropriate, since two of his biggest and best (Steppin’ Out and I’m The Man) are absent. To top it off, Is She Really Going Out With Him sounds like some Holiday Inn band that thought it was really cool to work it seamlessly into Bette Davis Eyes.
