Röyksopp touch down at the Opera House Tuesday (September 20). Rating: NN
This second album from Röyksopp comes hot on the heels of their high-profile gigs remixing the Streets, Annie and Felix da Housecat. Nearly everything about The Understanding is capital-S Soft, from its warm ambient synths to its glacial tempo. It all serves as a fitting backdrop for the Norwegian duo's hushed, yearning vocals. The whole thing is quite pretty, but I can't help feeling these guys need some more tension in their lives. After a bit, the album starts to sound like the soundtrack to a instructional pre-flight safety video, comforting yet easily ignored.
