Rating: NN

Sheryl Crow’s new disc overflows with guest cameos — Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, Emmylou Harris and Gwyneth Paltrow (!) — yet former beau Eric Clapton is nowhere in sight. Judging from some of the lyrics, it seems to have been a messy breakup. The impressive guest list, however, does nothing to change the fact that Crow writes boring tunes. C’mon, C’mon is bland, albeit pleasantly so, offering 13 tracks of slightly twangy, jingle-jangle melodic pop that fall somewhere between the Bangles and the Byrds, with little variation. On the upside, there’s nothing as gratingly irritating as All I Wanna Do, and with hooky melodies you’ll be humming for hours, the record’s an OK soundtrack for tossing back pints on the patio.
