Discs: PLANET ASIA

Rating: NNNN

Cali Agent Jason “Planet Asia” Green belongs to the growing conscious hiphop alternative to the West Coast crime-rhyme orthodoxy. Rising up from the underground, they don’t let their positive attitude get in the way of blasting muthafuckas in microphone battles. With an Interscope deal in the works, Planet Asia may have been holding back some hooks while cutting The Last Stand with producer Walter “427” Taylor, but this widely slept-on set (originally released in October) shows Asia to be an innovative stylist with a captivating flow on the verge of a major breakthrough. Check Planet Asia and 427 at the Reverb Friday (March 23).
