DJ Dolores

Rating: NNNN

There’s obviously more to Brazilian music than samba and bossa nova, and Recife turntable threat DJ Dolores, aka Chico Science collaborator Helder Aragão, has been working on bringing the traditional rhythms, rhymes and social issues of Brazil’s rural northeast to contemporary dance floors. On Aparelhagem (Brazilian slang for “sound system”), DJ Dolores keeps it raw and lively, electrifying rootsy maracatu and ciranda joints with an injection of reggae dub and dancehall flava. This summer it’s goodbye favela funk and hello cachaça crunk.
