If you were to trace Norwegian experimental black metal band Dodheimsgard’s musical history back to their first few “traditional” albums, like Kronet Til Konge and Monumental Possession, you’d probably think they were a different band altogether. Over the last eight or so years they’ve undergone a massive transformation that’s led them to the forefront of the genre’s avant-garde. Chaotically blending harsh, raw industrial elements with standard black metal riffing and heaps of scathing noise and electronic programming into some pretty dizzying compositions, Dodheimsgard impressively further their evolution to surpass even their benchmark, 666 International. And while metal purists will probably want to murder these guys, they’re clearly bringing a much-needed breath of fresh air to an all too stale genre.
