DOWNCHILD

Rating: NNN

Boogie blues has an inherent swing factor that mainman Donnie Walsh nailed years ago. That he still writes tunes that would make the most ardent biker dude wanna get down speaks volumes about his abilities as a tunesmith, but it’s how well he and lead vocalist Chuck Jackson blend together that makes the Downchild experience so engaging. A host of friends, including Jeff Healey, Gene Taylor of the Blasters and harpist James Cotton, lend support, but it’s Walsh and Jackson who command the brightest part of the spotlight, dishing up solid tunes you don’t need a master’s degree to relate to.

Downchild launch Come On In at the Mod Club Wednesday (November 17).
