The members of Deep Dish have taken some time apart lately to explore their solo sides, and this is Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia's first commercially released DJ mix without partner Sharam Tayebi. Both partners draw on their 80s roots, but Tayebi's spin took the shape of, say, reworking Eddie Murphy's Party All The Time, while Shirazinia is more interested in the new-wave side of that decade. He remixes Nitzer Ebb and drops Depeche Mode on the second disc. It's still based on a big-room progressive house sound, but he also nods to other trends, including artists you might not expect, like Carl Craig, Kerri Chandler and Booka Shade.
Dubfire plays the Guvernment tonight (Thursday, April 5).
