Earlimart have been making music since the late 90s, but it was 2004's Treble & Tremble that really pushed them into the indie spotlight. That disc's lush lo-fi sounds show up again on their latest, Mentor Tormentor.
You'll find great boy-girl vocals, muted guitars and quiet but hooky pop. Standouts among the 15 tracks include Nevermind The Phone Calls and Answers & Questions. But there are a few snoozers, too, especially in the record's latter half.
Aaron Espinoza can write a catchy tune but he has trouble keeping the song quality high over the disc.
