If you like your folk with a poppy, MOR feel that makes James Taylor seem downright edgy, then you’ll love This Is Me. Eddie from Ohio’s ninth album finds the Virginian quartet experimenting more with standard rock and pop structures, and with the help of crack producer Lloyd Maines (Dixie Chicks), they’ve fleshed out a slick-sounding album that mixes electric guitar and full-on drums with the typically spare acoustic sound of their past work. Singers Robbie Schaefer and Julie Murphy Wells are in good form throughout, and the countrified numbers mesh with the easy-listening tunes in a way that would befit Shania Twain.
Eddie from Ohio play Hugh’s Room tonight (Thursday, April 14).
