This is a really nice tribute album featuring a rather small collection of Warren Zevon’s tunes, including two previously unreleased tracks. It’s a who’s who of good ole Americana, from Henley and Springsteen to Dylan and Raitt, along with Zevon’s son Jordan, who also co-produced the disc with Jorge Calderon. The Pixies rock up Ain’t That Pretty At All, and Adam Sandler’s take on Werewolves Of London isn’t totally obnoxious. A few weirder moments come up: does Billy Bob Thornton always sound so gruff and spooky, or is it affected? And is it me or does Bob Dylan sound almost like a parody of himself lately? Incidentally, Jordan Zevon is the new spokesman for the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization, as it was apparently asbestos exposure, and not – as commonly believed – a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle that killed his dad.
