Enrique Iglesias

Enrique Iglesias 7 (Interscope) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

Maybe it’s because of that long-ago awesome single, Bailamos, or maybe it’s just cuz they’re both Latin dudes, but I keep expecting Enrique to be like Ricky Martin, who rules, and being forever disappointed when he fails. Oh, Enrique. 7 (Seven) is just flat, overproduced pop with dim lyrics like “It’s the way you touch me baybay.” It’s just got no punch. There was a moment when I thought things were sounding a bit better, with Say It, before I realized it’s because the melody is almost a direct rip-off of George Michael’s Faith. Of course, it’s important not to dismiss these things too quickly, since they tend to sneak up and grow on you. Kind of like ringworm.
