This is Erasure's first album in four years, and it comes on the heels of vocalist Andy Bell's revelation that he's HIV-positive. Despite the circumstances, it's not a particularly dark album - mainly mid-tempo love songs - although it suffers from a lack of really memorable hooks. I'll Be There, a fun bit of bubbly electro-pop, is a bright spot in an album that otherwise plods along. The production is lush and detailed, but that's part of the problem - any possible hooks are buried under the layers. None of the songs are really bad, but sometimes not bad isn't good enough.
