Esthero

Rating: NNN

Esthero thinks we’re in need of a musical revolution, and, yeah, I’m down with that. The first track is a call to arms, asking listeners to demand more from their radio stations. This isn’t a new sentiment, but Esthero’s got such a nice voice, it sounds different coming from her. More so than when, say, Tom Petty says the same thing. For this long-anticipated album, Sean Lennon provides writing and instrumental help, and rapper Cee-Lo Green makes an appearance on Gone. It’s only seven tunes, but they range nicely from dance to ballad to hiphop to samba, with excellent use of percussion, acoustic guitars and horns. And Esthero has tons of vocal personality, from the dance diva on the title cut to the sweet subdued girly girl on the Gilberto-esque This Lullaby.
