EVANESCENCE

EVANESCENCE Fallen (Epic/Sony) Rating: NNN Rating: NNN

So this is what you get when a Tori Amos wannabe goes nu-metal. A little goth, a lot of guitar, some ethereal vocals, some not so ethereal wailing. Evanescence’s Fallen is a tad precious, and the lyrics lean toward the banal and stupid, but that’s so common these days it’s hardly worth mentioning, isn’t it? Oh the pain! Even though it’s over-produced, and Evanescence take themselves way too seriously, Amy Lee’s vocals are pretty, which makes Fallen about as good as any goth metal album out there.
