Fatboy Slim

Rating: NN

The world needs a new Fatboy Slim album like Ashlee Simpson needs black hair dye. Still, that hasn’t kept Mr. Norman Cook from assembling 12 tracks of not-so-block-rockin’ beats for his dwindling fan base of ex-ravers and aging club kids. Even at his hedonistic best, Fatboy was always just a frat boy with decks, and given the harsh comedown of goodtime rock-tronica, he must be nursing one hell of a hangover. Even on dance-floor busters like Jin Go Lo Ba, Cook sounds totally knackered. The cupboards down at the Big Beat Boutique must be very bare, too. How else do we explain Bootsy Collins stumbling through a cover of Steve Miller’s The Joker? Palookaville? More like Poo-ville. Fatboy Slim hits the Toronto Film Studios Wednesday (November 10).
