Fleetwood mac Say You Will (Warner) Rating: NN
There's something disconcerting about the fact that Fleetwood Mac are still putting out new music. I mean, come on! Don't they have enough material for, like, 20 VH1: Behind The Music specials by now? Say You Will, on which Ms. Nicks and Mr. Buckingham have mended their burned bridges for the first time in 16 years, features the regulars sans Christine McVie and is divided pretty evenly between Stevie's flat-voiced swirly, mournful Jezebel ballads and Lindsey Buckingham's rattletrap rock tunes. It should provide much fodder for soft-rock radio stations. There's a surfeit of weird arrangements and ill-advised instrumental flourishes, but the really horrible thing is the odd, echoey stereo production, which gives you the bizarre sensation of being in a cavernous room surrounded by the disembodied heads of Stevie, Lindsey, et al. Strange.
