A staple of Brazilian jazz, Flora Purim has one of those enduring voices that shows no wear after a 30-plus-year career. Her hushed Portuguese lullabies on the soft, percussive Anjo De Mim and Anjo Do Amor sound timeless. The easy-flowing multi-instrumentalists at work here shine, but not so brightly as to overshadow Purim’s airy vocals. And the rhythmic activity and busy production of keyboardist/producer George Duke, a former Frank Zappa bandmate, never steps over the venerable chanteuse.
