The Foggy Hogtowners launch their disc at the Silver Dollar Saturday (October 1). Rating: NNNN
While no one was looking, the Foggy Hogtown Boys evolved from a group of excellent musicians playing bluegrass into a great bluegrass band. Northern White Clouds proves they've got the songwriting craft and interpretive skills to match their formidable instrumental chops, on a program of unique original compositions that sound like well-worn classics and vice versa. Their relatively straight-up cover of Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown could give them that mainstream break they never expected. But then again, their own tunes are so darn good, it might slip by completely unnoticed.
