For the Mathematics

Rating: NNNN

The second you hear the New Science, you’ll be bowled over by a gigantic wave of familiarity. You might even say, “I can’t help but feel as though I’ve heard this before,” and you’d be right. Jittery and jagged guitar riffs fit nicely up against the frenzied drumming. And when you toss in the falsetto-sung indecipherable lyrics and a song titled Unter Ihrem Sitz, it’s hard not to make the obvious comparison: the Mars Volta. On their debut, TNS deliver bold, wild-haired prog rock. It’s terminal velocity at maximum voltage for extreme aural pleasure. Is it innovative? No. But does it work? Most definitely.

For The Mathematics hit Club 279 tonight (Thursday, June 9) at 10 pm.
