Those who follow the Carolyn Mark travelling alt-country circus or diehard Vancouver punks still digging D.O.A. will know the name of eccentric songwriter Ford Pier. From a family of classical musicians, Pier was a prodigal choir child who eventually turned his vocal powers to evil, first getting into punk, then quirkier singer/songwriter pop stuff like on this new EP.
The post-punk Maybe It Came At The Wrong Time, showing a strong NoMeansNo influence, is lyrically sharp, as is Employed, in which Pier humorously muses aloud about his wandering work ethic.
Ford Pier plays the Cameron Saturday (June 9) at 10 pm.
