Forget the Strokes and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs -- Forró for All is one of the more innovative bands to come out of NYC in recent years. This five-piece, led by accordionist Rob Curto, specializes in a genre of Latin jazz specific to northeastern Brazil. You may be thrown off initially by their overzealous use of accordion, but the infectious drum beats and contagious dance vibe will keep you listening. After a few spins, you'll realize Curto and his squeezebox really drive the group. His speedy playing is brilliant, and he deserves credit for gathering together some of New York's and Brazil's most talented musicians.
Forró for All play Sunday (September 10) at Lula Lounge.
