Freaky Friday

Freaky Friday (Hollywood) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

The only thing worse than a bad teen movie is a bad teen movie soundtrack. The cretins who decided it’d be a good idea to remake the Jodie Foster Disney classic with a rock ‘n’ roll twist pumped the musical accompaniment full of empty dopey pop calories, from Lillix’s gag-inducing cover of the Romantics’ What I Like About You to the ponderous dirge-balladry of Forty Foot Echo’s Brand New Day, replete with synthetic strings – ugh! The bright spots on this collection are few and far between: the Donnas growl girly-rawk-style on Backstage, Andrew W.K.’s She Is Beautiful is good for a head-bang or two, and Joey Ramone’s take on Wonderful World is nice, although a bit played out, non? Alas, the disc sounds cheap and cheesy overall. What happened to the Reality Bites-style retro comps of yore?
