Welcome to the new-country psychedelic pop jamboree. Galloping drumbeat one moment, sprawling guitars aimed at the sun the next. Now follow that up with a down-and-out country ballad. Then repeat the last part over and over and over again. Haven't had enough? The second half of this debut album from Frontier Index drowns itself in depression. Tracks like If It Don't Work Out are fraught with country's emotional gut rot, both musically and lyrically. With some albums that's a good thing, but here it makes me yearn for some Pepto Bismol.
Frontier Index hit the Social Saturday (July 16) and the Gladstone Tuesday (July 19).
